A rural wonder

In the depths of the Dorset countryside on the banks of the River Stour lies Blandford Forum. This former village was burned down in the 1700s, but was rebuilt soon after by two brothers who produced some fine Georgian architecture which has stood the test of time.

On the fringes of the town, the annual Great Dorset Steam Fair is hosted every August Bank Holiday weekend, and is certainly an event not to be missed! If you’re more into carnival fever though, town spirit is rife when the locals celebrate the Georgian heritage of the area every May, and Blandford Carnival comes to town every September to bring the party.

There’s a huge array of shops to while away the hours, and you’ll be chomping at the bit to try all of the delicious sounding dishes in the many bars, cafes and restaurants.
