West Bay is a small town in West Dorset which has a pretty harbour and waterside views over the world famous Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and the waters of Lyme Bay.

With two piers, East Pier and the newly built Jurassic Pier, West Bay has lots of vintage seaside charm thanks to the fact you can literally walk on water out over the sea whilst enjoying some fish and chips or ice cream. West Bay also has two beaches which are both popular with families; East Beach which adjoins Chesil Beach and West Beach which is a pebbly shingle based stretch with a sheltered bathing area.

The day tripping possibilities from here are endless whether you are looking to do some fossil hunting or hoping to charter a boat for a trip out at sea. Fishing, diving, paragliding, walking and bird watching are all easy to do while on holiday in West Bay. Children will love trying their hand at crabbing and splashing about in the swimming pool as well as spending their pennies at the arcade.

There are a small number of restaurants in West Bay all welcoming and serving the finest local produce. As you can imagine being a harbour town, one of the most common items that you find on the menu is seafood. You can get a great meal in a picturesque location while in the town with restaurants overlooking the beach and harbour, possibly the most scenic place to enjoy food while on holiday in Dorset.

Dining out is also a treat as the nearby hub of Bridport only 1.5 miles away, is bursting with cafés, pubs and restaurants as well as being host to farmers’ markets offering wonderful seasonal local produce. If you want to learn to cook up your Dorset nettles and local cheeses why not try one of several cookery schools nearby?

The surrounding area is perfect for exploring on foot. There is plenty of rolling countryside to enjoy a long relaxing walk around with many pubs and cafés hidden along the way for that much need refuel. For a family friendly day out be sure to visit Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens where you can explore the stunning gardens in the morning before heading to Abbotsbury Children’s Farm where the kids will love feeding the animals, riding the ponies and running around in the large indoor play area. Also on the same site is Abbotsbury Swannery where over 600 swans live and you can also join in the feeding of these graceful animals.
