Langton Matravers is a small village in South Dorset found in the beautiful Isle of Purbeck. This little village is full of character and history which can be seen in the pretty village centre and the parish church. Set in a cluster of small villages, including Kingston and Worth Matravers, you can truly experience rural life with a stay here.

Langton Matravers has its very own museum which charts local history as well as giving a background to visitors about the stone quarrying heritage of the Isle of Purbeck. You could also visit the Burngate Stone Carving Centre and learn a new skill from the experts during your holiday in Langton Matravers.

The town is extremely close to the Jurassic Coast so taking a walk on the South West Coast Path or stopping to take in the striking sight of Durdle Door or Old Harry Rocks would provide a fulfilling outdoor activity. Families will appreciate having the beaches close by, for days spent playing on the sands and searching for fossils. You will also find Putlake Adventure Farm in the village, which offers indoor play on a working farm, where children can meet a variety of animals that live there too.

For those that enjoy walking, a wonderful route is that of the Dancing Ledge and Scratch Arse Ware, which takes you past the former quarry and an abundance of scratchy gorse. You may even be able to spot wildlife such as the puffin or shag. The walk is 3.5 miles in length and takes approximately an hour and a half.

If you leave the village, the Isle of Purbeck has so much on offer to make a holiday or short break a memorable one. Near to the village is the seaside town of Swanage where you’ll find a Victorian Swanage Pier and Swanage Railway where you can take an old fashioned steam train along the coast. For a day out try Corfe Castle, where the nearby town dominated by the ruins of a castle, with its narrow streets, collection of independent unique shops and Corfe Castle Model Village which depicts the town’s long and heroic history.
