This spacious farmhouse is part of a historic former monastic grange that dates back to the 15th century. A painstaking renovation on this Grade II*-listed property was completed in 2022, cleverly blending original character with contemporary comforts. Surrounded by rolling countryside, yet only 2.5 miles from the coast, this family-friendly property is a great choice for those wishing to explore the area or simply to relax in comfortable surroundings. Head to Charmouth, the pretty town of Lyme Regis with its historic cobb harbour and picture-postcard streets, the eclectic town of Bridport where you can hunt out vintage curios, or the village of Symondsbury, at the foot of Colmers Hill, which are all within 5 miles. For keen walkers, enjoy walks direct from the property to either Coneys or Lamberts Castle.

From the shared drive and farmyard, a private entrance door opens into a spacious boot room. Once inside, you are met with a sociable kitchen/diner with a flagstone floor, a beautiful handmade kitchen and space to dine just opposite. A king-size bedroom with an adjacent contemporary shower room leads from one end of the room, or pass the utility room on the right and take a couple of steps down into the lounge. This inviting room has an original fireplace with a wood burner and a Smart TV. In the corner of the lounge is the wooden staircase rising to the first floor, which arrives in the first of three beautiful bedrooms. This spacious room is mezzanine style, open to the stairs and gives access to the two further bedrooms. There are three single beds and bean bags making it the ideal room for children. Please note, due to the setting within the eaves, there are some areas of restricted head height on the first floor along with uneven floors and some steps, which only adds to its character and charm. The bedrooms leading from this room include a triple with a double and a single bed at one end and a further king-size bedroom at the other. Completing the accommodation is the bathroom.

Heading outside via the boot room and across the yard, you will find a gated and large lawned garden with picnic benches and space for ball games. In an adjacent barn is a tennis table, shared with the attached property.

  • Farm activities: guests are welcome to visit the main farm which is 0.75 miles away along a farm track opposite the property; here you can watch the robotic milking or meet the cows and sheep – details of how to arrange the farm visit will be in the property

In a very quiet location on a farm. We all loved the house, there were six adults and one baby, there was plenty of room. We had a curry delivered to us one evening, and was pleasantly surprised they came out down the country lanes.

We loved the cows and there was no trouble with any noise etc. We also loved the massive log burner which made the house lovely and warm. The space is large enough for a big group and the kitchen/diner is massive. The location is close enough to drive into Lyme or Charmouth. We had a lovely sauna on the beach in Seatown and loved our time here.

The Cheesehouse is a lovely place for a family holiday. It is placed right in the in the centre of a working farmyard and as you would therefore expect has quite a bit of tractor and livestock activity. Location great, easy to get around by car. Our granddaughter enjoyed upstairs space, garden (which is separate from the house you need to accompany small children/dogs . Wi-Fi dropped off most morning . router is in the Grange, TP links in each room . We were 5 adults (family), bit of a struggle 1 shower which smelt damp . Very well equipped cottage, the children enjoyed being on the farm although we only had the cows visit the actual farmyard once whilst the vet was doing his examinations. Great out door area for children to play safe and many bbq's to choose from. Plentiful parking. Bit of a late review because life has been so hectic. We had a lovely visit to The Cheese House in May. The location is lovely and the owners were really helpful. We didn't experience much in the way of farm noise so it was very peaceful, this could depend on time of year though.
