Pretty, former coach house with spacious gardens, located close to the town centre of Sturminster Newton, an attractive market town situated on the River Stour in North Dorset.

This property is located just a short walk from the centre of the historic town of Sturminster Newton. The celebrated author, Thomas Hardy, made Sturminster Newton his home and the area around the town features in several of his novels. It is easy to see why the novelist fell in love with this town, with its picturesque water mill, handsome arched bridge, and beautiful surrounding countryside. The River Stour which runs through the town, is a great place for keen fishermen, as well as those who leisurely walks in attractive surroundings . Further afield, yet still within easy reach the town of Shaftesbury is a wonderfully quaint place to spend an afternoon, and visitors will recognise its famous Gold Hill from the long-running Hovis adverts.

This detached property makes a lovely romantic retreat for a couple looking to escape the stresses of daily life. Upon arrival, guests can immediately make themselves at home in the lounge/diner which not only has comfortable seating, but also has large floor-to-ceiling windows which flood the room with light, and a TV/DVD. Passing the dining table and moving through to the kitchen, guests will easily be able to find everything they need including an oven, hob, microwave, fridge with ice compartment, and washing machine. The bathroom is also located on the ground floor and offers a shower-over-bath and WC. Stairs lead from the lounge up to the first floor in the eaves of the property. The super-king-size bed dominates this cosy space, which has sloping ceilings, a storage chest, and two circular windows at either end of the room. Guests should take care here as there is some reduced head-height in this room.

Outside, there is a pleasant patio with a table and chairs which is accessed from the patio door in the lounge. Beyond this area, the garden gives way to a spacious lawn with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the sun, or perhaps sit outside with evening drinks or an alfresco meal. There is ample-off road parking.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

This property was perfect for us and our two terriers. Good parking despite the narrow access road, lovely comfortable sofas and bed, well equipped kitchen. The garden is properly enclosed and was much enjoyed by the dogs. Very short walk to pub and shops. Lovely longer walks along the river to the mill and also along the Trailway.

We like the garden because it's safe for dogs - they have room to wander but can't escape. Quite comfortable for relaxing and sleeping but the bedroom is quite narrow with low eaves. Nice village with shops, walks and a pub. Not far from other interesting towns and villages.

The Old Coach House was very clean, well equipped and comfortable and our 2 jack Russell's loved the private, enclosed, dog friendly garden, as did we. It was a sun trap and plenty of garden furniture to sit on and relax, very peaceful with only the bird song to listen to. The old coach house was situated down a lane just off the main town so easy Read moreto walk to the shops and if you went left out of the house you were in the countryside within 2 minutes with lovely walks in all directions. We found the Cottage very comfortable, close to all amenities, literally a few minutes walk which was ideal. Nice welcome gift waiting when we arrived which was a nice touch. This was our second visit to this property. As usual it was incredibly clean very comfortable and tastefully decorated . Very comfortable and clean accommodation. Very well positioned for access to the local countryside and amenities. A lovely place to stay with or without a dog. We really appreciated the Welcome Pack. The local pubs (The Swan and The Bull) served excellent food. Local museum worth a visit too.

The cottage itself is lovely in a really quiet location lots of birds singing the road to the cottage is very narrow so take care. We had a great time even though the weather was awful.

We had a lovely relaxing Christmas break. The coach house is cosy and clean and has every thing we could wish for. Fully enclosed garden for dogs. Lovely walks by the river Stour and the local village and pub is ideal. We would highly recommend.

The cottage is only 2 minutes from the town, with some nice walks for dogs. The garden is enclosed so safe for dogs to be let out in to play. There is off road parking. So everything you would need.

Very comfortable cottage - good bed and excellent settee and large chair. Handy for local shops, pub and walks around the village. Quiet location along a small lane and a few hundred yards from the main road. Very secure garden for our 2 small dogs - who would have explored further if they had the chance.

We had a fantastic week at the old Coach house. The location was amazing. We have a large dog and the walks were brilliant. The garden was fantastic for dogs and lovely also to sit outside.
