Discover the best of both worlds from the comfort of this unique cottage, choosing to spend your days exploring stretches of magnificent coastline or strolling across miles of unspoilt countryside.

Set in a pretty village on the Isle of Purbeck, this beautiful cottage is well placed for exploring Dorset’s historic gems from the Jurassic coast to famous castles. Sample fresh seafood on the seafront in Swanage 3 miles away, or venture to Corfe Castle, the iconic survivor of the English Civil War, 4 miles away. Keen walkers will rejoice at the sheer number of walks available from your doorstep, especially with the close proximity of the village pub for a well-earned ale or two afterwards!

The traditional exterior gives way to a wonderfully quirky living space, set out in a unique split-level design and finished with wood and stone for a rustic twist. On entering the property you’ll find yourself in a small hallway with a cosy twin bedroom to your right, and a set of open stairs leading to the first floor straight ahead. There are also some steps heading down to the country-cottage style kitchen, which has everything you need to cook up a storm for the entire family. The large table has plenty of seating for hearty breakfasts, or retreat to the terrace to dine alfresco. Adjoining the dining area is a small lobby, which branches off to the first double bedroom, an intimate single bedroom, and a bathroom with shower over bath. The kitchen area is overlooked by a small open-plan lounge, ideal for younger guests to relax whilst the adults linger after supper with a digestif. The large lounge is upstairs, offering sea views, comfortable seating and a roaring open fire ideal for chilly nights. From here you’ll discover the last set of stairs, which leads to another small lobby where you can access the second double bedroom and bathroom with shower over bath. There’s also a galleried study overlooking the lounge, a brilliant place to escape to read a book in solitude.

On a sunny afternoon the garden is an irresistible spot for drinks on the terrace as you fire up the BBQ, ready to sizzle up something special. The garden is carefully sheltered by flowering shrubs and bushes for complete privacy, creating a safe place for children to play on the sweeping lawn.

Great cottage in lovely location. The cottage is bigger than it looks on photos, and is an interesting and well thought out layout. Has a nice feel to it all. Well placed too for interesting coastal walks and short drives to other local attractions. Extremely well placed for a short stroll and wobble back from great local pub.

Rainbarrow Cottage is a warm, cosy, pretty cottage with a lovely feel. It is supremely well equipped and organised throughout. The best equipped kitchen I have ever come across. Alongside the bedrooms, plenty of space for walking boots, coats etc., and different areas for everyone to be. Garden is small, pretty sheltered and full of sun, so we wereRead more able to eat outside a number of times. Great location within the village for pub, sea and quiet. We booked a return visit on our first day. Hide

Wonderful location and village. Inside the cottage is quirky and the interior looks a little tired.

The property appears dated with some cleaning issues, most of which were addressed during the holiday.

The cottage is in need of some refurbishment and could do with a thorough deep clean. The village is lovely and convenient to visit local attractions.

Lovely quirky, comfortable cottage with a relaxed atmosphere in an outstanding village. Wonderful area for walking. The children appreciated the playground opposite in the evenings. We really enjoyed our stay,
