Choose from a variety of accommodation to suit your stay

Corfe Castle is a small village in the middle of the Isle of Purbeck in South Dorset. The village sits within a small peninsula which is mainly an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village itself certainly deserves its place within that designation as it is charm incarnate with many little houses and traditional cottages as well as its very own Corfe Castle Model Village.

Many of the buildings are characterised by the local grey Purbeck limestone, which adds to the picturesque setting of Corfe Castle village. Dominated by the castle from which it gained its name sits in the Purbeck Hills, a holiday in Corfe Castle will suit history lovers, walkers and those simply looking to relax.

For such a small and enchanting village there is a lot to see and do. In particular you may be interested to try out a trip on the steam railway. The Swanage Railway was once in full use but today the line is being used for steam locomotives running trips for visitors and steam train enthusiasts. It’s also a fantastic way to see the spectacular scenery that this beautiful village has to offer.

The village has a few shops for a spot of shopping, with the majority independent and some are quite quirky; from art galleries to ceramic shops. You’ll also find the Ginger Pop Shop, an absolute haven for fans of both the author Enid Blyton and illustrator Eileen Soper. It is said that Enid Blyton visited Corfe Castle during a holiday in nearby Swanage, and this is thought to have inspired her description of Kirrin Castle in the Famous Five books.

South of Corfe Castle is the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site now world famous for its fossil hunting opportunities. A day trip to the coast is a must when on your Corfe Castle holiday and also a ‘must see’ is the main attraction of the village, the romantic and daunting Corfe Castle ruins. Owned by the National Trust this castle was privately owned until recent decades and was built by William the Conqueror during the 11th century.
