Places to propose in Dorset

Simon L 18 January 2018

There are stunning locations across the county that will provide you with the perfect spot to get down on one knee and ask your loved one that very big and important question. If you’re looking for a secluded hideaway, unique setting or a stunning backdrop then there is plenty of choice across this diverse and gorgeous landscape. We’ve rounded up our favourite, beautiful, and memorable places to propose in Dorset.

Shaftesbury Gold Hill

The iconic Gold Hill in Shaftesbury is one of the most picturesque places to propose in Dorset with its traditional thatched cottages, pretty ancient cobbles and stunning elevated views across the countryside. Get down on one knee with a gorgeous backdrop to create a memorable proposal.

Cerne Abbas

Cerne Abbas is a pretty, quiet village in Dorchester that is famous for the Cerne Giant, a 180ft chalk figure carved into a hillside. Believed to bless couples with fertility and a long, happy marriage, there’s a beautiful spot with breath-taking views by St Catherine’s Chapel, the perfect setting to pop the question.

Durdle Door

For a coastal location in Dorset, Durdle Door is one of the most scenic settings by the sea. This natural limestone arch on the famous Jurassic Coast near Lulworth has a charming shingle beach that provides the perfect spot for a romantic walk or picnic to lead you up to the big question.

Jurassic Skyline

For a unique proposal that is that little bit different, why not take to the skies and get down on one knee at the top of the Jurassic Skyline tower. Based at the Sea Life Centre in Weymouth, this observation tower offers unspoilt panoramic views as far as up to 26km away and slowly rotates 360 degrees as it works its way up to the top.

There are plenty of beautiful and memorable places to propose in Dorset and if you are planning to pop the question on your next visit, why not take a look at our selection of cottages which will provide you with the perfect romantic stay.
