Our East Dorset holidays tips

For an exciting and memorable break, East Dorset offers plenty of for the whole family to see and do. Boasting beautiful countryside and coastal landscape, there are various towns and villages to discover as well as historic monuments and sandy beaches.

Great for walkers and explorers, there are plenty of routes in East Dorset along the famous Jurassic Coast Path that allows you to soak up the gorgeous scenery. You'll stumble across some of the county’s top sights such as Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Corfe Castle and Old Harry Rocks as well as spotting fantastic wildlife along the way. For a day by the seaside, there are lots of beaches and coves to enjoy during your East Dorset holidays. Bournemouth beach is comprised of seven miles of award-winning beaches and you’ll find plenty of bays that are dog-friendly, complete with arcades and attractions or offer water sports as well as various secluded havens for a quiet day by the shore. The town of Bournemouth is also a vibrant large town with plenty of shops, cafes and bars to enjoy and home to attractions such as the Bournemouth Balloon and Pier.

Christchurch

For a day full of history, Christchurch is a great location for an interesting stroll. With two castles, an 11th century church and a Saxon mill, the charming town also has a number of beaches that are great for water sports and breath-taking views out to the Isle of Wight. Keep an eye out on events in the town too as the popular Christchurch Regatta and the Christchurch Food and Wine Festival attract a number of visitors to the area annually and make for a great day out.

Sandbanks

Nestled at the mouth of Poole Harbour is the exclusive area known as Sandbanks. A small spit found between Bournemouth and Poole Harbour, Sandbanks is the place to go to admire luxurious beachside house, unwind on the blue flag awarded beach or enjoy a taste of fine dining at top-rated restaurants. Make sure you keep an eye out for famous names during your visit too as celebs often love to unwind in the area.

Brownsea Island

Merging to the east with Bournemouth is Poole with its stretches of golden sands, fun-filled Quay and is the gateway to Brownsea Island, a wildlife reserve which can be reached by ferry access from the harbour. Kids will love Tower Park which is also great for an impromptu rainy day with ten-pin bowling, a multiplex cinema and indoor waterpark or enjoy the informative Cockle Trail where you can retrace Poole’s history of ghosts and smugglers and lets you admire landmarks in the area.
