Ferndown in East Dorset is just north of Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch and borders Hampshire to the west. This little town is packed with typical Dorset charm and has a wonderful community spirit which welcomes visitors.

A trip to Ferndown offers much to explore and discover from the wonderful attractions nearby to the peaceful King George’s recreation ground which is perfect for children and adults alike. The park offers a play area and skateboard park for children as well as many tennis courts, a boules and croquet lawn and traditional football and cricket clubs. If golf is your sport then you won’t be disappointed as Ferndown Golf Club is one of the finest courses in the whole of the county and has been ranked in the top 100 courses in England. Dudsbury Golf Club is also nearby and is a challenging yet enjoyable course.

Visitors will also love the Moors Valley Country Park, Adventure Wonderland, Knoll Gardens and the nearby Wimborne Minster Model Town. Ferndown has its very own nature reserve called Slop Bog which is an area of Special Scientific Interest. It has a boardwalk so you don’t get muddy feet or disturb wildlife and there are great opportunities for pond dipping; you may get to see some damselflies and dragonflies. Nature enthusiasts will also enjoy Ringwood Forest which is not far away with its adventure trails, fun railway and nature walks.

You’ll be in for some tasty food and drink during a holiday in Ferndown with the town being home to a surprising number of pubs and restaurants. The Cinnamon in Ferndown is one of the most popular and serves a variety of Indian cuisine. Other places worth a visit include Bentleys, Stone Lounge and The Kings Arms.

There is plenty to see and do in East Dorset with Bournemouth and its many beaches only just a short drive away. Also in Bournemouth you’ll find a world of entertainment with music venues, cinemas, aquariums, laser quest, ten pin bowling and much more in the town, which has gained it its reputation for a lively nightlife in recent years. Poole is a much more tranquil location and in the harbour is the National Trust owned Brownsea Island, a must visit for any nature lover. There are also great all weather family days out at Tower Park with a cinema, water park and great restaurants all on site.
