Choose from a variety of accommodation to suit your stay

Found in the west of Dorset, in close proximity to the county town of Dorchester, Bridport is a small market town where good food and good fun are both top of the agenda. There are many lovely places to eat including cafés, restaurants, tea rooms and traditional pubs as well as tasty fish and chips to enjoy by the sea at nearby West Bay.

The town is located fairly close to the sea and the old Bridport harbour, now known as West Bay is just a short trip away. Due to the close proximity of West Bay, with the seaside charm of piers, arcades and ice creams on the esplanade you will find a little bit of vintage seaside fun during your holiday in Bridport. For this reason, Bridport is an ideal base from which to enjoy a family holiday in Dorset or for a romantic getaway a little further out from the main holiday resort towns of Bournemouth and Poole.

Bridport features an extremely rich history, and Alfred the Great established it as a fortified burgh in the late 9th Century. In 1253 Henry III made the town a Royal Borough, later confirmed by Elizabeth I and James I. As such, there are over 1000 listed buildings of historical or architectural merit within the town to see, many of which are connected to the town’s prominent rope making heritage.

The area surrounding Bridport has a wide selection of cookery schools so if you wanted to learn a new skill when on holiday why not learn to cook a new dish, a great holiday souvenir! The Bridport Food Festival will give you ample opportunity to sample and stock up on lovely Dorset goodies too.

The annual Bridport Carnival is a ‘must see’ if you happen to be planning a holiday for the August summer holiday. The processions, floats and all round fun provide excitement for all. The Melplash Show which has been held in Bridport since 1847 is a wonderful event for anyone interested in livestock, agriculture and gardening.

The town’s arts scene during the 21st century has seen the town become increasingly popular with people outside of the locality. The arts centre, theatre, library, cinema and museum are great examples of this, and help to showcase the scene. The Bridport Art Centre and Bridport Museum give you a chance to take in some heritage and culture on your Bridport holiday whilst enjoying the town and its lovely surroundings.
